![]() ![]() Kung Pow! The Midnite Movie Mamacita once more kicks out the jams with two oldies-but-goodies from the Grindhouse Redux vaults on Friday evening, November 30. First up is Seven Blows of the Dragon (1972), a chop-socky classic from Shaw Brothers Studio, foremost producer of Hong Kong ’s most sensational Kung Fu classics of the Seventies. A martial-arts retelling of the Robin Hood legend reset in ancient China , the cacophony of glorious feet-and-fists-of fury will be presented in a rare 35mm print at 9 pm. Next, a very young pre-Miami Vice Don Johnson stars in the cult sci-fi favorite A Boy and His Dog (1975). A futuristic tale of a young man and his telepathic dog wandering through post-apocalyptic Arizona , this dark survivalist comedy (based on a story by genre guru Harlan Ellison) is responsible for igniting the Midnite Movie Mamacita’s craving for odd cinema and she is especially elated to share it with the Grindhouse crowd. The post-nuclear cult curio plays at 11 pm , in 35mm—the way it was meant to be seen!
!Aye Chihuahua! Who needs 3D when you’ve got masked Mexican wrestlers flying off the screen and into the lobby?
![]() This time the Midnite Movie Mamacita, Valley B-movie maniac, really goes out of her cabeza by hosting the Saturday December 1 Noche de Luchadores (Night of the Mexican Masked Wrestlers), a mixed-media madhouse involving South of the Border ring barbarians both on and off the screen. The action kicks off at the Chandler Cinemas at 8 pm, with in an hour-long in-lobby wrestling card featuring masked marauders from XJAM, the outrageous indie wrestling troupe whose you-gotta-see-to-it-to-disbelieve-it exhibition will be highlighted by a no-holds-barred masked all-female bout. . .with a squadron of roller derby dolls as referees! ![]() ![]() At 9 pm, the action moves onto the big-screen with a rare 35 mm screening of 1973’s Santo Vs the Voodoo Women, starring the legendary Santo ("the Mexican Hulk Hogan"), this time squaring off against (among other things) a voodoo queen, wrestling zombies, bad Seventies, fashion, nuclear annihilation and, alas, a dubbed French soundtrack. Fortunately, the soundtrack will be turned off during the screening, allowing local improv comedy troupes Phoenix Neutrino Project and Galapagos to ad lib dialog and sound effects a la Mystery Science Theater 3000. ![]() But hang on to your guacamole--there’s more! Assuming the Midnite Movie Mamacita hasn’t yet beaten you to submission, the show ends with a post-screening performance by Valley garage/surf rockers The Rebel Set. ![]() Chandler Cinemas is located at 2140 N. Arizona Ave, Chandler, AZ 85224 (in the rear of the Target Shopping Center) at the NW corner of Arizona Ave and Warner Roads, 480-821-1605. Admission is $10. Debbie does Dallas (and Chandler!) in soft core big screen revival with live performance by musical cast Debbie Does Dallas! And on Friday November 16th at 11pm the carnal cheerleader and her pals will do Chandler, too, as Valley B-movie the Midnite Movie Mamacita delves into her archives to present a soft core R-rated version of the 1978 cult porn hit as part of a Dirty Double Feature. When: Thursday Nov 08, 2007 at 9:00 PM Where:: Paper Heart Arts Venue 750 NW Grand Ave Phoenix, AZ 85007 United States View Map Tonight the team brings you the mind-boggling 1980 kung fu caper Mafia vs Ninja. Despite the lack of traditional Mafia in the film (unless you count a knife-wielding Italian), it's the unintentionally hilarious saga of two sewage workers who become embroiled in gang wars between the Chinese gangsters and the Japanese Mob. The you-gotta-see-it-to-believe -it climax involve a final battle in which Ninjas burrow under the ground and the hero is besieged by, yes, speeding clumps of grass. With its insane kung fu choreography, atrocious dubbing and ludicrous plot, Mafia vs Ninja is sure to blow the minds of even martial art movie fans who think they've seen it all. |
